Built in 1864, legend has it that The Tea House was one of the first colonial tea planter's bungalows made in the region. The house which has been tastefully restored keeping its colonial heritage intact, is admirably classic in style. This historic house is surrounded by beautiful well maintained private gardens. Inside, the tranquility and atmosphere of a family home are all still intact. The Mancotta Tea Estate set in the outskirts of Dibrugarh, in Upper Assam, after having changed hands for decades was finally was taken over from an erstwhile sterling company called British Indian Tea co. by the present management. The garden was bought on the 3rd of August 1970, and along with it was passed on the magnificent erstwhile superintendent managers bungalow. Mr. Duncan Hayes was the last serving British manager to have lived in the bungalow before it passed on to the present management. That sprawling structure is a classic example of the luxury and comfort the British lived in and an ideal representation of their lifestyle in the estates. The bungalow is built on stilts and showcases the colonial tea bungalow architecture to perfection. These structures, supported by stilts, are called "chang ghars" in the local dialect and the present day name of the "Mancotta Chang Bungalow" is derived thus. The majestic Rain Tree overlooking this erstwhile superintending manager's residence gives us an exact idea about the age and timelessness of the garden and the bungalow. This bungalow in particular has a unique and rather interesting feature of not having used any iron nail in its flooring.
The Chowkidinghee Tea estate situated right in the middle of the chowkidinghee area, was bought over as a company more than half a century ago. The cozy little manager's bungalow, skirts the garden and stands in front of the age old tea factory of the estate. The faint yet refreshing aroma of freshly cut tea leaves from the factory and the garden all around makes this bungalow nothing short of a tea lover's haven. This decades old "chang ghar" (a house on stilts) has survived the most horrific earthquakes Assam has ever experienced, seen floods sweep away as much as two kilometers of the town of Dibrugarh, and in all of that continued to be home to innumerable "chai bagan" managers. A slight dent in one of the iron beams supporting the bungalow from the earthquake in early 1950's, is all that is left now for us to envision of the times the garden has seen.
A warm and inviting fireplace adorns the heart of the bungalow, the "jaali" verandas overlook a perfect expanse of green, and what completes this perfect getaway, is that refreshing cup of freshly brewed authentic Assam tea.
The Wathai bungalow is almost like a treasured possession being passed on for decades from one manager to the next, withstanding more than a hundred years of weathering and is set amidst an unending undulated expanse of green tea bushes.
Steal yourself away to Wathai Heritage Bungalow, in Limbuguri Tea Estate- this newly added boutique plantation bungalow will allow you to rejuvenate your senses as it defines serenity and you will most certainly leave feeling revitalized. It has been recently renovated and is the ideal base whether on a quest for quietude or seeking refuge whilst on an explorative ornithological tour to the neighbouring Dibru Saikhowa National park. Located just 5kms from the park, it is the ideal retreat for a birding break as well. Riverine in nature, this park remains open for most of the year and birds such as Ruddy Shelduck, Black Breasted Parrotbill, Marsh Babbler, Jerdon\'s Bushchat, Hornbill, Marsh Harrier, Pied Harrier and many other ducks, birds of prey and grassland birds are commonly sighted here. It is indeed an orinthologist\'s delight! Endangered species like Gangetic Dolphin and Feral Horses are also common sights in the park.
This charming resort surrounded by the Mishmi Hills in Wakro has been built with support from a Dibrugarh based travel company, Purvi Discovery. The resort consists of four huts on stilts, built entirely of bamboo and cane in the Mishmi style of architecture. Each hut has two rooms with a double, and two single beds, each. The total occupancy of the resort is 16 persons. There is a central dining place. The rooms, with their bamboo and cane décor (including a traditional bamboo door latch!) have in the centre a replica of the traditional fireplace used by the Mishmis. The beds are clean and comfortable, complete with a mosquito net. Each room has a small sit out, again tastefully done where one can sit and enjoy the view of the Mishmi hills in the distance. Four concrete modern toilets with showers, a little distance away from the huts, assure the traveler that this is not a completely 'wild experience' (Hot water will be provided in buckets). The staff is extremely warm and attentive, and the meals scrumptious.
Wakro is the homeland of the "Mishmis" one of the Mongoliod tribes of Tibeto-Burman origin. They speak a distinct dialect. The Mishmis are very rich culturally.

Glenburn is a heavenly little plantation retreat that lies on a hillock above the banks of the River Rungeet, high in the Himalayas, overlooked by the mighty Kanchenjunga mountain range.
Started by a Scottish tea company in 1859, Glenburn then passed into the hands of one of India's pioneering tea planting families – The Prakashes, One of India's pioneering tea-planting families, we have, over the years, come to be known as the "Chaiwala family" - which literally means "tea planters".
The story of the Chaiwala family began over a hundred years ago, and is closely entwined with that of tea plantations in India. Today, the third and fourth generation Prakash family carry almost a century of tea knowledge in their inheritance, and we invite you to experience this legacy at Glenburn.
The "tea estate" experience was inspired by the vineyards of Europe and other parts of the world, where visitors observe the wine-making process, taste the wine and shop for wine, local crafts and produce.
